Memorial Cairn and Trees Commemorating Seven WWI Soldiers
In 2018, a memorial cairn was erected to honour and remember seven soldiers from Iwade who lost their lives during the First World War. Behind the cairn, seven trees were planted in memory of the soldiers. This lasting tribute serves not only as a mark of respect for their ultimate sacrifice but also as a reminder of the profound impact the Great War had on communities both near and far. The cairn stands as a symbol of collective remembrance, gratitude, and reflection.
Each name inscribed on the cairn tells a story of courage, sacrifice, and the personal loss felt by families and communities.
The cairn commemorates the following seven servicemen:

The memorial was officially unveiled in November 2018 during a ceremony attended by local residents. It was part of the centenary commemorations marking 100 years since the end of World War I.
